about

Following up from his 2014 album The Sins of Science, J.G. Hackett is back with a new album full to the brim with masterfully catchy synth rock as well as an exploration of new electronic styles.

Words from the artist:

It seems an age since I released any music. As many musicians will no doubt appreciate all too readily, life has got in the way. In my case that has been building a business, which has been so all-consuming my musical productivity has suffered.

So it feels like a real treat to be able to put out a new record. Acid Alliteration is a deliberate attempt to move away from the two things that characterised the last album, The Sins of Science: indulgent over-production and long song lengths. In other words, rather more discipline was exercised in the making of this collection!

I’ve attempted to come up with songs which are punchier, more concise and more unified in terms of production feel. The sound remains rooted in the late 80’s and early 90’s, as all of my music has been in one form or another, but I have attempted to explore more upbeat styles such as House with this collection.

One small curiosity for the synth geeks – this album features famous sounds from two classic 80’s synthesizers. The real deal, too, not software recreations! I wonder if anyone can guess which?

As a hobbyist musician, any audience is an audience worth having. So I hope you will find something you like in this little collection of tunes. And I hope that in some way, my work will bring you a moment or two of pleasure.

It brings me more than a moment of pleasure to have my labour of love preserved in time through the wonders of the online world. And for that pleasure, I thank Vulpiano Records for helping artists validate the time and effort they spend creating music by making it possible for others to hear their music.
